10-Yard Fight
10-Yard Fight is a 1983 American footballvideo game developed and published by Irem for arcades. It was released by Taito in North America, Electrocoin in Europe, and ADP Automaten in West Germany. A port developed by Tose for the Nintendo Entertainment System was released in 1985 by Irem in Japan and Nintendo internationally. 10-Yard Fight is viewed in a top-down perspective and is vertical scrolling. The player does not select plays for either offense or defense. On offense, the player simply receives the ball upon the snap and either attempts to run with the quarterback, toss the ball to a running back, or throw the ball to the long distance receiver, essentially the option offense. On defense, the player picks one of two players to control, and the computer manipulates the others. The ball can also be punted "Punt (gridiron football)") or a field goal "Field goal (football)") can be attempted.
Dino City
DinoCity is a 1992 platform video game developed and published by Irem Corporation for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game is loosely based on the 1991 made-for-television film Adventures in Dinosaur City, and borrows many of the film's characters, settings, and basic plot while providing its own unique art direction and style. Initially released in July 1992 in Japan, the game was later made available in North America the following September. The game centers on two friends, Timmy and Jamie, young children who are accidentally transported to a world resembling prehistoric Earth populated by anthropomorphic dinosaurs. While a device which will allow them to return home exists in this environment, a critical component has been stolen by Mr. Big, leader of a gang of Neanderthals known as The Rockeys, leaving the player to guide Timmy or Jamie to his castle to retrieve it. They are assisted by Rex, a Tyrannosaurus, and Tops, a Protoceratops, each with their own play-styles.
R-Type
R-Type is a 1987 horizontally scrolling shooter video game developed and published by Irem for arcades. The player controls the R-9 "Arrowhead" starship in its efforts to destroy the Bydo, a powerful alien race bent on wiping out all of mankind. The R-9 can acquire a glowing orb called a "Force", giving limited protection from enemy fire and providing additional firepower. R-Type was the first game to run on Irem's 16-bit M72 arcade system. The development team drew inspiration from Gradius, Aliens and works by H.R. Giger. The music was composed by Masato Ishizaki, while character designs were by Akio Oyabu. The arcade version was distributed in North America by Nintendo, and was the last arcade title to be released by the company. R-Type was commercially successful and praised by critics for its graphics and addictive gameplay, but was criticized for its difficulty. It is commonly cited as one of the best shoot 'em up games, and one of the greatest video games of all time.
