The game was widely ported to home systems beginning in 1986, and was followed by the computer and console-exclusive sequel Paperboy 2 in 1991.

Controls consist of a set of handlebars that can be turned/tilted to steer and control speed, with mounted buttons that can be pressed to throw papers.
